On “Family Fridays” this July and August, the Children’s Corner (located by the Willink entrance to Prospect Park) will host Brooklyn Public Library’s Kidsmobile and offer free Animal Tales activities by educators from WCS Prospect Park Zoo. Live animals, carousel rides and a trip back in time are right next door, making Family Fridays a convenient spot for families in the summer months. Brooklyn Public Library's colorful Kidsmobile, generously funded by Borough President Marty Markowitz, is a children's library on wheels. On Family Fridays, the Kidsmobile will be at the Children’s Corner from 12-3:30pm offering books, fun programs and library cards for kids of all ages.
From 1-3pm, stop by WCS Prospect Park Zoo’s Animal Tales, a literacy-based program for ages four to eleven. An educator from WCS Prospect Park Zoo will focus each week on a different animal in the zoo’s collection such as the kangaroo, porcupine, or California sea lion. Read stories and folktales, play games, touch animal skulls and skins and make an animal-themed craft to take home! From the Children’s Corner, WCS Prospect Park Zoo, where kids can see daily sea lion feedings and meet dozens of other live animals, is just a short walk away.
Nearby at Lefferts Historic House (open 12-6pm), take a trip back in time with tools, toys and games from 200 years of Brooklyn’s history. Or stop by Prospect Park’s old-fashioned Carousel, featuring 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, and two dragon-pulled chariots, accompanied by joyous organ music. (Carousel cost: $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, for all ages.)
Family Fridays at the Prospect Park Children’s Corner are a gateway to storytelling, history, exploration and more. The Children's Corner is located inside Prospect Park’s Willink entrance, at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard.
