Music Update
The soundtrack for “The Rising” is shaping up to be as powerful and beautiful as the movie is visually. Charles Hambleton, assistant director of the film and one of the music supervisors is excited. “Although we are still editing and not at the point where we can start placing tunes, many artists have been signing on to help us because they believe in the movie’s message.”
Most recently, Blues Traveler recorded an original tune called “Dolphin Jam” (good on toast ?) for OPS that is rocking and has John Popper passionately wailing on the harp (mimicking dolphins) and Chan with some really dangerous guitar tones and chops. Everyone that’s heard it says it rocks.
Trey Anastasio has offered to help and some of his beautiful music has already found a home in the rough edit. It makes those that have seen it weep. John Butler, David Crosby, and Graham Nash have offered to contribute also.
Additionally, the soundtrack is drawing from Boulder’s wealth of musical talent: Devotchka, Rose Hill Drive, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Jeep, The Samples, and others are involved.
We have some other very big international super stars involved that completely support the movie (names withheld until details are finalized) so the soundtrack album will be amazing in its own right. Multi Grammy award winner John King (Dustbrothers) has offered to produce the album.
“We have been talking with several composers for the score and it will, along with the source music, be sure to match the emotionality of the movie.” Says Hambleton.
Dr Roger Payne’s “Songs of the Humpback Whale” helped start the original “Save the Whales” movement, maybe this time, along with helping our marine cousins, humanity can be “Saved by the Whales”.
More soundtrack news as the movie takes shape.

OPS Fish Eye
Just back from shooting in Indonesia, OPS print image division, "Fish Eye" has captured hundreds of detailed reef scapes . Slated to premier parallel to the film, an exhibition of high resolution, large format images will appear in several US cities this fall. Gallery exhibitions along with a book will offer detailed portraits of underwater life, as seen by some of the best eyes in the business. Renown underwater photographer, David Doubilet, his assistant/wife, Jen, Louie Psihoyos, OPS team members Simon Hutchins, Greg "Moondog" Mooney and Mike Wallent dove in Raja Ampat, combing the pristine Indonesian waters for vivid images to capture with OPS’ specially designed cameras. Tech junkie, Mike Clark uploaded, keyworded and saved the take nightly.

"If dolphins are so smart.........."
As we edit the film, and show the trailer of the brutal dolphin capture/slaughter in Taiji, we keep getting asked the same few questions. The recurring response to the penned sea mammals seems to be, "If dolphins are so smart, why don't they just jump over the fence?" Unfortunately, the lithe, flying creatures we see at dolphin shows and on TV are not representative of the true creatures. We asked dolphin trainer, Ric O'Barry some commonly asked questions, now part of FAQ on the OPS site. Hope it helps. We will be adding more, feel free to ask your questions.
