‘THE COVE’ Movie Comes to Japan- Tokyo International Film Festival

Public screening Wednesday October 21, 10:30 am Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills Screen 1 (http://www.tiff-jp.net/report/daily_en.php?itemid=1032)

Special Guest Speaker: Louie Psihoyos, Director of ‘The Cove’

Additional Guest: Carl Clifton, film distributor The Works Media Group - London

Film director Louie Psihoyos, has agreed to be present at the Tokyo International Film Festival screening of ‘The Cove’

At the end of the film’s showing, circa 12:10 pm, a ‘Question and Answer’ session will be engaged by Director Psihoyos inside the theater. This session will include information of how ‘The Cove’ movie was made, including details of how the film team was able to obtain such unique images and visual materials.

The announcement from Psihoyos that he will travel to Japan coincides with a recent letter of invitation which he has extended to Taiji’s Mayor, Town Council and local citizens for ‘The Cove’ movie to be shown in Taiji, allowing the citizens and local authorities to judge for themselves the merits and accuracy of the film. Psihoyos has stated that a key purpose for making the documentary is to expose the harmful and potentially lethal, health effects of eating mercury-contaminated dolphin meat.

“The Japanese town of Taiji is testing its residents' mercury levels for the first time," said Psihoyos. “The issue of mercury-laden dolphin meat being sold in Taiji and across Japan, often as mislabeled whale meat, was exposed through the release of the film 'The Cove'. The multi award-winning documentary reveals the connection between the capture of dolphins in Taiji and the poisoning of those that eat the toxic dolphin meat.“
