It's Always About Money.......
The OPS Team of editors (Mike, Tom, Miles, and NY-based Geoff Richman) continues to assemble hundreds of hours of footage in Boulder, working to spin a tale that audiences will respond to. At this point we are officially asking for help. The Donate button on the OPS website is up and running. Your secure, tax deductable donation will help pay for all sorts of essentials: ten o'clock pizza as they lift their tired eyes from their screens, the transcription of the PSA into Japanese, phone bills, screenings. OPS is looking forward to the five-week sound design process with Reilly Steele
and color correction with Will Cox, seasoned pros all around. But not cheap. Thanks in advance.
OPS Eye
Parallel to the film, OPS has been working on a series of hyper high-definition photographs of the sea. The first public unveiling of these detailed prints will be in Boulder, at the Highland Gallery on Friday, September 26, from 5:30 to 7:30. Seasoned photographers David Doubilet and Louie Psihoyos spent hundreds of hours undersea, lighting and shooting pristine reefs in Raj Ampat, Indonesia. This was the trial use of the world's best underwater camera that's ever been made, a custom-designed digital underwater view camera with edge-to-edge sharpness and no color aberration. Doubilet, who has shot over 60 stories for Ntional Geographic called it the "Holy Grail" of underwater photography. The show, at 885 Arapahoe, hangs for six weeks.
Japanese PSA
After witnessing several years of dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan, the horrified OPS Team felt the need to let the world know, and hopefully end this barbaric practice. Many people have responded, but inside Japan, a media blackout still seems to exist. Only thirteen whaling ships herd and slaughter the migrating dolphins, yet most of the Japanese people are unaware that this occurs. OPS created a special, four-minute Japanese version public service announcement (PSA
) in addition to an existing English and Spanish version. Uploaded to the OPS site, in addition to YouTube, this valuable tool will hopefully be spread virally to inform those out of the loop. Pass it on.
