Update

September 16, 2009 Brought to you by Oceanic Preservation Society

Japan Will See The Cove

The Tokyo International Film Festival has announced that it will screen The Cove this year after all.

Initially rejected for reasons unclear, the film has been defended by fans and stars like Ben Stiller.

The announcement of the screening is great news.

TIFF's green theme this year, "Action For Earth" is represented by films like Jacques Perrin's Oceans on opening night.

And now, The Cove.

Director, Louie Psihoyos is delighted.

"This represents a huge win for the dolphins, the environment and the Japanese people."

Taiji Update

Hunting season in Taiji has officially begun yet according to reports, the town of Taiji has decided to release 70 of the roughly 100 dolphins captured last week.

And while we lament the fate of the captured 30, this might represent a major breakthrough.

International attention from the film has shone a spotlight on the "the little town with a really big secret."

It didn't hurt either that Ric showed up on September 1 with busloads of journalists.

Unfortunately, there are reports that 50 pilot whales have been killed for their meat. Still part of the dolphin family, pilots are some of the most toxic cetaceans known.

Shoppers beware, choose smaller fish.

We also witness another breakthrough. The Japanese media is now reporting on the hunt as well.

CFT, a Japanese animal advocacy website interviewed Louie last week.

And while he spoke out against of dolphin harm and mercury, he doesn't blame the citizens of Japan for this.

"Please let the Japanese people know that I love them and that The Cove is not an indictment against them."

Hopefully with a new government, news will flow, people will act.

And dolphins can thrive.

Deauville Film Fest

The Cove screened this past weekend at the 35th annual Deauville American Film Festival.

Veteran director, Luc Besson graciously guided first timer, Louie Psihoyos through all things "red carpet".

Pictured here facing the photo corps, Louie stands with Ric, Luc and special guest, Maud Fontenoy.

As an ocean advocate, she has circled the globe in a rowboat.

Solo.

Thanks all for the support.
