OPS

Update

April 22, 2010 Brought to you by Oceanic Preservation Society

Earth Day Greetings, Oprah, OPS Shop and Celebrity Friends

All you supporters have grown in numbers, 18,000 have asked to be kept in the loop.

We want to thank you for following OPS and our film, The Cove as we touch hearts and minds around the world.

Fan mail. Donations. Screenings. Retweets. Facebook tributes. Art. Songs. Poems. Faux Coves. We love it all.

It's important to remember the original idea that inspired the first Earth Day, 40 years ago.

Cited as the beginning of the modern environmental movement, this was when people banded together and rose up against a range of issues leading to the deterioration of our environment. We were seeing oil spills, blatant pollution by plants and factories, toxic dumps, unregulated use of pesticides, less wilderness and wildlife. It was gross. It was unhealthy. It needed to be changed.

We realized we had common goals and chose to act together. From the grass roots to the marble halls of DC, we developed momentum and change. The EPA was born. The Clean Air Act as well.

We at OPS feel connected to that week in 1970 when 200 million Americans took to the streets to make their concerns known. Some brave folks actually risked their necks. Ric O Barry found himself in a Bimini jail for trying to rescue a captive dolphin.

We salute Ric and all who make our collective home a priority.

Happy Earth Day.

Oprah!

Louie, Ric and Fisher were in Chicago last week, taping an Oprah segment for her Earth Day special.
